Popular Uses

The winner is not the player who wins the most pots. The winner is the player who wins the most money. -Anthony Holden

A card player should learn that once the money is in the pot, it isn't his any longer. -Herbert Yardley (1957)

You Should Also Know...

A big faux pas in poker is to "splash the pot," which means to just throw your chips in the middle of the table, rather than pushing them neatly into the pot. This not only can cause some chips to bounce or roll into other people's stacks, but it also makes it more difficult for everybody to gauge how much money is in the pot. If you are Teddy KGB, though, you can do whatever you want.
